I am a nurse for 14 years. I love it. I studied in Belgium and you don't become a nurse because of the pay. I work here in California. Nursing is very rewarding but can be very strenuous physically and psychologically. I still see more rewards in my job.

I am a 55 yr old nursing student, going on to get my RN. Even in this late stage of my life I know I can make a difference...in the past 4 yrs as a LPN I know I have touched many people. Before becoming a LPN, I was a firefighter and rescue. So I know how important the medical people are.

You need to re-evaluate your comments...Nurses and MDs are quite different professionals. MDs are not there 24 hours a day. Nurses are. Period. Nurses diagnose and treat patients' responses to their problems or perceived problrems. MDs diagnose and treat the actual problems...not the patient himself. MDs are wonderful professionals and work well with nurses for the most part, but NURSES are there even after the MD leaves the scene...still taking CARE of the patient. I'm very proud to be a nurse!

@SUREdotdotdot The 2 hemispheres of the brain are no longer connected to each other, the left side controls speech, and the right side controls comprehension (new to Psychology so sorry if this is a little off). He SEES the word but the communication hemisphere doesn't understand how to say it. But his comprehension hemisphere sees it and understands it. He can't communicate what it means but he still understands it. Really, really trippy stuff.

To be honest, that's not really a side affect that will impair him for life. I have no issues with this as a cure for epilepsy. Hell I think it's kinda cool. @SUREdotdotdot it's because different parts of the brain is in charge of different functions. the right brain is more "sub conscious" and the left brain is more conscious because we notice our analytical part more because the left brain also deals with language. right brain deals more with pictures and feelings...so he did see it, it's just that only his left eye saw it, so only his right brain comprehended it. his right eye did not, so his left brain could not say what it was.

My grandmother (my mother's mother) had been severely affected by Alzheimers' within 5 years before she died in 1998 at age 83. The disease incapacitated her intellectually and physically. She couldn't speak, walk, understand what was going on, recognize familiar faces, dress herself, feed herself, nor take care of herself and function independently. She lived under intense care of my aunt and uncle until her death. Losing both her parents was very very hard for my mother to bear.

@padude64 ...just a comment about Namenda...it isn't good for everyone. I'm the primary care-giver for my father-in-law. He was diagnosed with AD about 12 or 13 yrs. ago. At one point, his doc wanted to try adding Namenda. After just a few days of it, he was totally incontinent (bladder & bowels) and drooling & "drugged". We called the doc & he told us to stop it immediately. Within 2 days he was back to having control of his bladder & bowels and more like his old self.

Think of the underlying law of nature. The way of all things. Consider its astounding inferences and implications. The single, underlying law ... of nature! Not merely of physics, chemistry, psychology, biology, etc., but of all known fields of inquiry. The law we can all relate to, identify, understand and apply. Ask yourself. What is the underlying law of nature? Delight in the question. Have fun in the process of finding the answer firsthand for yourself. Google it, as a start.

I give credit to all of you who are caring for family members/friends diagnosed with AD. Im a college student and have been doing a large research project on the disease, simply because I did not know much about it. Through everything Ive been reading and learning, the disease is so difficult to deal with for both patient&caregiver.I think it takes TONS of patience and encouragement to get through it. I understand how difficult it must be for all of you. I will keep you in my prayers! Nicole D

going through this right now with my husband. He has been diagnosed with Dementia and having tests to determine the stage and if it is Alzheimers. Setting up appts with nursing homes and assisted living facilities to see which one is best for him. I am getting to the point of not being able to care for him (he is angry much of the time). This is the "long goodbye" and the hardest thing I have ever done. Thanks for posting this.

i am now in this postion with my father in law.. but some family members are in denial .. they won't face that he has dementia.. i'm not sure it's alzheimers.. but he seems to have the main symptoms for it.. and he knows he's losing his memory.. we had to move him and mom to a long term care just last week.. i went through this with my dad about 3 years ago.. all you people dealing with this i support you wholeheartedly .. you're amazing people

Nurses in our country is being abused for RNs are working as a volunteer or trainees and worst we are the one paying the hospital just to have a clinical experience. These all happened when nursing boomed and people taught that nursing will bridge you to work abroad. With this situation, a lot of us are now losing hope and losing faith in this profession. After watching this vid, my heart was touched and I can say that I am proud that I am a nurse and I'll strive harder to touch more lives.

Thanks so much for helping us tell our story! I have been a nurse for over 27 years and I teach BSN nursing students. I use your videos to show our students and prospective students why nursing is a special profession full of special people. Get the kleenex!! Great video. It is hard to believe that we as nurses have this impact daily and many of us go about are buisness without ever knowing. We need more videos like this especially those promoting nurse educators as we near our predicted nursing shortage. Great job Johnson and Johnson!!

Get the kleenex! It is hard to believe that we as nurses have this positive influence on a daily basis; unfortunately, many of us go through our shift unaware. This video is certainly a glimmer of what nurses do yet, a great representation. It really makes me feel proud to be who I am and to know that what I do has such an impact. We need more commercials like these for our profession as we face the nursing shortage with an even stronger focus on the need for nursing educators. Thanks JandJ!
